Magic The Gathering Tournament Tips Blog

Win a Playset of Force of Wills

You’re about to win a playset of Force of Wills that are in near mint condition. Whoever found these or played these took very good care of them, they look unplayed.

So here’s the deal…

This is the official kickoff contest of JohnnySpike.com and I wanted to make sure I gave you something really cool. I nearly got punched in the face by my wife when I told her I was going to be giving these away LoL.

If you win these Force of Wills you can play them in your Legacy decks, trade them for the cards you need in your T2 deck, keep them in your trade portfolio, sell them for quick cash, or trade them for a bunch of T2 trade stuff and pimp out your portfolio.

The contest will run until April 25th, I will be announcing the winner on April 30th after verifying the winners points.

What are points?

Points are how you win this contest, whoever has the most verified points wins the playset of Force of Wills.

Here’s How You Get Points: (see rules below)

  • 250 Points = Leave a comment below this blog post to officially “register” for this contest
  • 500 Points = Write an article about MTG for us to post on our blog later

Contest Rules:

There are a few minimum requirements that must be met as well which you can read about below. All participants are required to keep track of their own points tally, and when the contest ends on April 25th at midnight, the contestants that wish to be “verified” will need to send an email to johnny@johnnyspike.com with proof of their claimed points.

All submissions must be received by April 25th at 12:00pm EST (if unable to do this for some reason, please notify us in advance). Our team will carefully go over your submitted points claims to determine and verify the winner.

is there a limit on how many articles can be written?

Tim Karleksint April 11, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Wow I could definetly use these… sadly I usually never win contests like these. Doesn’t hurt to try though!

Justin Brooke April 11, 2010 at 10:25 pm

No Derrick, they just have to be good, current, and relevant!

Cody Foss April 11, 2010 at 10:40 pm

Force of Wills for putzing around on the net?

I’M IN.

Christopher Payette April 11, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Cool. Looking forward to this. Lets see if Legacy can become playable. Lol.

Spencer Lantos April 11, 2010 at 10:49 pm

its because force of will is the only first turn counter spell that makes it so amazing its the onlt card that will negate any first turn combo theese day in vintage you see so many of them and bam play forsce of will they u used a mutil card combo and you destoyed there plans in espicially in vintage even in leagacy you dodnt always get that 2nd or 3rd turn so how do u counter that spell force of will =) definatley a good card to have

Justin Brooke April 11, 2010 at 10:51 pm

Tim, with this contest it’s up to you. It’s not a luck shot like the one StarCity is running right now. Don’t get me wrong theirs is great but you have to just be randomly picked.

With this contest if you earn the most points YOU WIN THE PRIZE!

Brenden Buckmeier April 11, 2010 at 11:09 pm

Count me in. FoW has been one of my favorite cards for ages!

David Leavitt April 11, 2010 at 11:13 pm

*registering for contest*

I write for several online newspapers including Examiner.com (Boston Magic: the Gathering Examiner) and AssociatedContent.com (Featured Video Game Contributor).

If I decide to write an article for either of these newspapers, will I receive entries for the playset of FOW?

Also, I will be emailing you shortly in regards to writing articles for you.

Okay, I don’t really have the time tonight to read all of what’s this website about but my guess is : a singles cards selling site with articles and a community but only for Johnnys and Spikes, am I right?

If so, count me in and you’ll get a crapload of articles… shouldn’t have sold my FoW playset last summer , didn’t know Legacy was coming big with tournys and all that :(

Rich April 12, 2010 at 12:12 am

will there be other free card chances

Wolfgang Winter April 12, 2010 at 12:17 am

I seek to officially “register” for this contest, and to say this is a fairly good idea… tho i have found though personal experience with running contests, that many smaller prices are more well recieved then one large one. that being said, you should write articles for http://www.mtgcast.com ^_^ those goes are epic

Christopher Payette April 12, 2010 at 12:28 am

Where does one submit articles?

Daniel Williams April 12, 2010 at 1:01 am

Figured i would go for it.

Cody Foss April 12, 2010 at 1:05 am

Yes, where does one submit articles to?

Justin Brooke April 12, 2010 at 3:14 am

Chris, you submit them to johnny@johnnyspike.com but please hold all articles and your points sheets until April 25th when we ask for them.

Justin Brooke April 12, 2010 at 3:19 am

@Eric Maltais, Right now we are just a blog but we do hope that it will be a two way conversation ;-)

@David yes if you write for those sites and give proper mention of our contest then I will count it as if you were blogging about us on your own blog. However, I cannot count it as an article for us since it’s not usable by us. Make sure you include a link to us if you do write and article about our contest and I will be responding to you about the writer position.

Christopher Payette April 12, 2010 at 8:44 am

Will articles be discounted as “out of date” if they are written about pre-Rise of the Eldrazi, since they are to be submitted post-Rise of the Eldrazi?

Justin Brooke April 12, 2010 at 11:31 am

Be careful not to write about things too far back, however, historical deck data and magic the gathering blast from the past articles are fun. Just turn in the article and if it’s a good read then we’ll include it.

Mak Dieter April 12, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Very nice idea.. And good luck to johnnyspike.com in it’s future growth!

logan April 12, 2010 at 1:30 pm

im not that good i just started playing magic, im sure i can’t hurt to try and win

logan April 12, 2010 at 1:38 pm

It’s rather funny that you would ask people to write a bigger post for MTG. I just started to play a few months ago and i’ve played in a few events at my local store, and my girlfriend would look through my cards and pick out cards she liked. Turns out with just a bit of coaching from better players she picked out her first deck Eldrasi green blew my poor deck out of the water now i have to play catch up but its fun. lol and who says girls dont like gamers?

Special Bats April 12, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Hey folks! Good luck on the contest, lets hope we all build a good community as a result.

I hope I am considered registered in the contest, you can’t actually be sure since “register” was in quotation marks, which in English are used to demonstrate irony or to quote someone else. BUT! :D I’ll just hope that’s a mistake. hehe

How will Johnny Spike keep track of things like whether I added a link to this page in my forum signature or whatever?

Geoff Dearing April 12, 2010 at 3:43 pm

Looks like a good blog for competitive or even casual MTG players. Look forward to updates!

Justin Brooke April 12, 2010 at 4:10 pm

@SpecialBats Everyone is in charge of keeping track of your own points and if they can’t be proved then we can’t verify you got them. On April 25th we will ask everyone to turn in their point tally sheets, articles, and proof.

To prove you added a sig link you just need to tell us which forum and what your username is, we will check manually.

Chris Waters April 12, 2010 at 4:32 pm

when I write an article or two, how should I show them to you? Should i make like a free blog or something, and post them there and then link the site in the email?

Zachary Rudis April 12, 2010 at 6:09 pm

This looks like a very interesting contest

Matthew Thomas April 12, 2010 at 6:15 pm

So best of luck to everyone!

Benjamin April 12, 2010 at 8:13 pm

I think that this would really boost up my deck and I think the contest is a great way to kickoff your website :)

Brenden Buckmeier April 12, 2010 at 9:40 pm

Hey Justin, or JohnnySpike (haha), I’ve got a couple articles here I wrote about decks I’ve been playing and how they play in today’s meta. When would you like me to submit them for this contest? All at once at the end? Or right now?
Thanks for the nice community and awesome contest!

James Conces April 12, 2010 at 10:16 pm

Count me in for this! You want us to hold onto any articles we’ve written until the 25th?

Anthony April 12, 2010 at 10:34 pm

is this for real? lol seems intresting.

Spencer Lantos April 12, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Kevin Goskowsky April 13, 2010 at 7:31 am

FoW… A card i thought i would never own…. Finally a shot at being mine!

Jason Lowenthal April 13, 2010 at 8:39 am

So, how do you plan on keeping track of people who have twitter, facebook, a website, and who subscribe to your RSS feed… do you use some kind of tracking system to ensure that all of the points go to the right person?

Jason Lowenthal April 13, 2010 at 8:40 am

Oops, nevermind, I just saw in the rules we keep track of our points :-P

Jason Coleman April 13, 2010 at 9:36 am

This is an amazing contest and there is nothing that I need more than a set of Force for my legacy deck. Just need duals, fetches, and entombs if I win this to finish Reanimator.

Justin Brooke April 13, 2010 at 10:57 am

Yes please hold all articles until the 25th when we ask everyone to turn in their point tally sheets, thanks!

Ben Castillo April 13, 2010 at 2:30 pm

Here’s my submission for the Fow’s! May the one with the most time on their hands win! :)

Gareth Schaaf April 13, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Saw the ad on facebook, and I was already interested. Signed up for the RSS, and I like what I see on the site so far.

Mike Stewart April 15, 2010 at 7:35 pm

I just got your email you sent out to everyone about the Twitter updates. I haven’t been including the hashtags. I’ve been posting something like this

Win some Force of Wills in the contest sponsored by @JohnnySpikeBlog http://ow.ly/1wti5

Even though I haven’t been using #freeplayset, could I on submission still receive points for these previous postings?

Thanks.

QWMichael April 16, 2010 at 4:40 pm

I shouldn’t be surprizing so hard at that.
